10-31-17 Boo Bash at the Beach

Rainieravenueradio.world brought #TrafficJam Live to Boo Bash at the Beach: Rainier Beach Halloween Party at Safeway! Thank you to Safeway, Mayas Restaurant and Fiesta Time Catering and Third Place Books Seward Park for the great costume prizes!

"In 2016 when Halloween was on a stormy Monday, more than 4,000 people attended what has become the largest free Halloween event in the entire City of Seattle. On Tuesday, October 31, when the weather forecast includes sunshine and warm temperatures, more than 5,000 kids and their parents will descend on Rainier Beach Safeway for Boo Bash at the Beach. Each year, local media drives families to trick or treat in affluent, overwhelmingly white areas of Seattle. The Rainier Beach community rejects that idea, and has worked to make Boo Bash at the Beach the place to be, to keep our kids in their own neighborhood, and to attract others to the best party in town. The 4th Annual Boo Bash at the Beach has remained true to its core values, providing a free, safe, flat, and fun trick-or-treat experience outdoors. And each year, Boo Bash has grown by leaps and bounds, offering more goodies and serving more kids. This year, the scariest part of Boo Bash is likely to be the free flu shots being provided by Safeway's pharmacy. Kids can also get free a bicycle helmet, haircut, children's book, and a bag for their treats. Professional photographer Derek Johnson provides portraits, the first for many area families. More than 55 trick or treat stations are spread across the Rainier Beach Safeway parking lot and the adjacent closed street. There are two big tents: a 40' x 100' monster tent with Thriller Dance performances by the Rainier Dance Center, a Blues Brothers cover band, and dancing to DJ Tony Benton. A special, 30' x 30' tent is provided for small kids, with storytelling by award-winning children's book author JL Cheatham II, magician and balloon artist Ruben Barron, and sing-alongs to Disney tunes by song belter Michael Cagle. Rainier Beach corporate anchors, community organizations, local small businesses and community activists, have joined with the Seattle Police Department, Seattle Parks and Recreation, Seattle Department of Neighborhoods and elected officials and political candidates for the Annual "Boo Bash at the Beach", held in the parking lot and the closed street adjacent to the Rainier Beach Safeway. Seahawks' Blitz will join many other special guests. And, again, it's all free. Responding to a need for a fun, safe and interactive experience for families, Boo Bash combines the best of South Seattle's efforts to affect positive change. The enduring partnership with the Seattle Police Department, which brings its community-friend horse and bike patrols, Det. Cookie's Chess Club, and Seattle Police Officers Guild helps make Rainier Beach the safest place in all of Seattle on Halloween."
